One of the last two things we're needing to complete in order to get our Home Study visits started is completing our Autobiographies. Some of you might remember that I wanted to try to get these done before our social worker went on holiday vacation. Obviously we didn't. Too much to do and, knowing what I know now, we'd never have been able to complete it. We've been working on it for the last two evenings and I have one thing to say... SAY WHAAAT!!!I can understand asking us to give an overview of our lives and maybe discuss what is motivating us to pursue adoption, but they are asking us to write so much more than that. For example, they want us to discuss what our parenting style is... we're not parents yet! There are several other things that are necessary, (Florida Statutes for Home Study Report), but sheesh.
OK, Ok, so I'm blowing off a little steam. As I read through the list this morning it doesn't seem as strange as it did last night. The parenting style might be something they need to know, but still, it's becoming a pain instead of an insightful exercise.
You should try it... you might learn something about yourself that you didn't know. Write a story that includes your family background, childhood experiences, relationship with your parents and siblings, education, employment history, interests, hobbies and religion. Discuss any medical problems, etc. (That is just the 1st out of 7 sections for ours). Happy writing!

WOW! What a list to cover! It sounds like it will take a lot of thinking back and concentration when answering in detail every question.
